Collector's Guide
We at Joseph Editions want to make collecting fun, unintimidating, and affordable, and we know the art world can be a confusing place. Here's our Collector's Guide to break down some of the terminology.
Our guarantee: All the artwork we offer is fully authentic and strictly limited to small edition sizes. |
What is a limited edition?
The artworks we offer are original limited edition prints. This means that the number of copies is limited to a set quantity. Each print is signed and numbered by the artist, either on the front or back of the artwork.
While they are not unique (there are multiples in the edition), the artwork is not a reproduction or replica. The artwork is conceived by each artist as she/he collaborates with a master printer to create these just for us at Joseph Editions.
What is a Master Printer?
A master printer is a highly skilled printer who works very closely with an artist to produce editions of an artist's work. The title "master printer" is usually attained over a long period of time and involves the disciplined development of a special set of skills. Joseph Editions is honored to work with a master printer based in New York who has worked with some of the most respected and well-known artists in the contemporary art world, including Chuck Close, Jim Hodges, Roy Lichenstein, Takashi Murakami, Richard Serra, KiKi Smith, Kara Walker, and Kehinde Wiley, among others.
